Rock Solid Insights: Proof Rolling

January 30, 2026

Proof rolling is used to confirm ground stability of building sites, parking lots, and roads. A proof roll consists of closely monitoring the ground below the tires of heavy equipment while traversing the site. This testing method can quickly identify weak areas, unstable conditions, or areas which have undocumented buried materials. If the soil ruts, pumps, deflects, or yields, it signals weak spots that may fail later. Additionally, proof rolls check for uniformity of compaction. Compaction testing works well to test specific points, while proof rolling checks the entire surface continuously.
