Rock Solid Insights: Stormwater UIC

June 25, 2025

A drywell and/or drill hole, commonly referred to as an underground injection control(UIC) is an underground structure that collects and disposes of hard surface stormwater runoff, allowing it to be injected into the subsurface. A UIC’s purpose is to help prevent flooding and protect surface water quality.

UICs can impact groundwater, which is why they require jurisdictional registration to ensure they’re used safely and properly maintained. Registration helps to prevent pollution from running off containing oil, chemicals, or debris.

If you have a UIC and are not sure if it is registered, Wallace Group can assist in verifying the status. If it is not registered, we can explain the process and assist with registration. It’s a simple step to protect the public health and our drinking water.
